ROREX RESIDENCE- We are designing a passive solar modern home to be located overlooking Flathead Lake in Northwest Montana. This structure is designed with a low slope metal roof to hold the snow preventing damage and acting as insulation in this cold climate zone. The lower level is clad with corrugated Corten sheet metal on the bottom to stand up against the annual standing snow, the upper level is clad with fireproof cement fiber lap siding with a rustic warm finish.
The second level is cantilevered on all sides to maximize the living area and to minimize winter snow build up against the bottom wall; this effect makes the house appear to float above the ground. A radiant heated floor will assure winter comfort and a mini-split high efficiency heat pump system powered with photovoltaic solar electric cells will keep the interior comfortable in all seasons. The south façade is almost all glass taking advantage of the terrific view and annual solar heating.
